DO YOU REMEMBER THESE PLACES?
I was reading some Facebook posts from friends and started to talk about all of the now defunct and bankrupt former Pittsburgh shopping stores/department stores that are long gone. If you weren't born in the 40's, 50's, or 60's, I am sure you won't remember any of these stores. Feeling a bit nostalgic and wanted to see how many stores that we shopped at that our children and their children didn't know existed. A trip down memory lane. The stores that existed before malls became the fashion. If you know of a store I forgot, please message me and let me know. I'll try to find a photo of the store. This is simply a pictorial walk down memory lane.
I remember, every Saturday, my "cool" Uncle Joe pulling up to my house (when I was a young boy) in his fancy sports car and taking me to G.C. Murphy's Five and Dime and letting me buy any thing I wanted. Every Saturday, I only was able to pick one toy from the seemingly thousands of toys displayed prominently in the wooden boxes lining the first floor of the store as I walked in, my eyes aglow and heart racing to see what toy was going to be mine that week.
